Wheat Market Size in Portugal

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 309% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wheat imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, France (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wheat to Portugal, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, wheat imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Poland (X tons), with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from France was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-0.3% per year) and Poland (+25.8% per year).
