The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +13.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre fabrics exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 98%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Spain (X tons) was the main destination for glass fibre fabrics exports from Portugal, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fibre fabrics exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), more than tenfold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Spain totaled +7.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+16.3% per year) and Belgium (+28.5% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the key foreign market for glass fibre fabrics exports from Portugal, comprising 37% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Spain totaled +4.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+102.3% per year) and Hungary (+40.7% per year).

In 2022, the average glass fibre fabrics export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -12.9% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, glass fibre fabrics export price increased by +59.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 51%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+32.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Portugal
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of glass fibre fabrics decreased by -24.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 86%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre fabrics imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) were the main suppliers of glass fibre fabrics imports to Portugal, together accounting for 65% of total imports. Hungary, Spain, Germany and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +104.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
