In 2021, Australia (X tons), France (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Russia (X tons), Canada (X tons), Germany (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Romania (X tons) was the major exporter of barley in the world, mixing up 83% of total export. The following exporters - Denmark (X tons) and the UK (X tons) - each amounted to a 4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Romania (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest barley supplying countries from Puerto Rico were Australia ($X), France ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together accounting for 47% of total exports. Russia, Canada, Germany, Argentina, Romania, Denmark and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

The following importers - Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons), Iran (X tons), Japan (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Libya (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) - together made up 24% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to barley imports into China stood at +19.4%. At the same time, Turkey (+46.6%), Vietnam (+29.1%), Tunisia (+21.7%), Libya (+20.3%), Algeria (+7.4%), the Netherlands (+5.7%), Jordan (+1.9%) and Germany (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +46.6% from 2012-2021. Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-1.5%), Iran (-2.2%) and Saudi Arabia (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Turkey, Tunisia, Libya and Vietnam increased by +20, +5.2, +1.8, +1.5 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported barley into Puerto Rico, comprising 31% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 13% share of global imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China totaled +18.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-5.9% per year) and Turkey (+43.0% per year).
