The Puerto Rican broom, brush, and mop market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+14.8%) and India (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +14.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-1.3%), Mexico (-4.7%) and Italy (-7.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+6.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-1.6 p.p.), Germany (-2 p.p.) and Italy (-2.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest broom, brush, and mop supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 50% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +8.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+4.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+13.0% per year).

In 2021, the United States (X units), distantly followed by Germany (X units) represented the main importers of brooms, brushes, and mops, together generating 23% of total imports. France (X units), Russia (X units), Mexico (X units), China (X units), Brazil (X units), India (X units), the UK (X units), the Netherlands (X units), South Korea (X units), Hong Kong SAR (X units) and Japan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of brooms, brushes, and mops. At the same time, India (+17.5%), South Korea (+11.8%), the Netherlands (+8.7%), China (+7.8%), Brazil (+7.3%), Hong Kong SAR (+6.5%), Germany (+4.2%), Russia (+3.9%) and France (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +17.5% from 2012-2021. The UK, Japan and Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. India (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Mexico and the United States saw its share reduced by -1.5% and -5.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest broom, brush, and mop importing markets into Puerto Rico were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 30% of total imports. The UK, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, China, Mexico, Hong Kong SAR, Brazil and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +10.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
