China was the key exporter of carbides in the world, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 45% of total exports in 2021. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.6% share, followed by Germany (5.4%) and Slovakia (4.8%). Brazil (X tons), Russia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Romania (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the United States (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to carbides exports from China stood at +4.0%. At the same time, Vietnam (+35.0%), Germany (+10.5%), Brazil (+3.4%), Kazakhstan (+2.6%) and the Netherlands (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +35.0% from 2012-2021. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovakia (-2.0%), Sweden (-3.4%), Spain (-3.8%), Romania (-4.2%), Belgium (-4.5%) and the United States (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China, Germany and Vietnam increased by +9.9, +2.9 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest carbides supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 41% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 5.7% share of global exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to +2.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+2.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+0.4% per year).

In 2021, Germany (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the key importers of carbidesacross the globe, together reaching near 25% of total imports. Japan (X tons) held a 7.1% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (7.1%), France (5.6%) and South Korea (5.5%). Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +18.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest carbides importing markets into Puerto Rico were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and Japan ($X), together accounting for 38% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Sweden, France, India, Italy, Poland, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Russia, which together accounted for a further 34%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +13.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
