Madagascar (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented roughly 59% of total exports in 2021. Tanzania (X tons) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Sri Lanka (9.5%) and Singapore (5.8%). Comoros (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Singapore (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.4% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (6.1%) and Indonesia (5%). China (X tons), Bangladesh (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), the United States (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to clove imports into India stood at +9.9%. At the same time, China (+33.3%), Indonesia (+31.5%), Bangladesh (+30.1%), Vietnam (+20.2%), Pakistan (+11.9%), Saudi Arabia (+8.3%), Germany (+4.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+2.5%) and the United States (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +33.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-2.1%), Singapore (-2.6%) and the Netherlands (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+8.6 p.p.), Indonesia (+4.2 p.p.), China (+3 p.p.) and Bangladesh (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of the United States (-1.7 p.p.), the Netherlands (-2.5 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (-2.8 p.p.) and Singapore (-12 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cloves into Puerto Rico, comprising 34% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with an 11% share of global imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +4.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (-3.6% per year) and Indonesia (+33.8% per year).
