Festive Articles Market Size in Puerto Rico

After three years of growth, the Puerto Rican festive articles market decreased by -2.3% to $X in 2021. The Netherlands (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the festive or carnival articles exports, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+16.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belgium (-3.3%), Mexico (-3.4%), the United States (-8.1%) and Hong Kong SAR (-17.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+37 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Belgium, Mexico, the United States and Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -2.3%, -5.8%, -6.2% and -11% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest festive articles supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 82% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 2.8% share of global exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +30.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United States (-3.0% per year) and the Netherlands (+9.5% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Puerto Rico amounted to less than $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.

Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+19.8%), Saudi Arabia (+7.4%), the Netherlands (+6.3%) and Germany (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +19.8% from 2012-2021. France and the UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-1.3%), Canada (-3.8%), Brazil (-10.3%) and Hong Kong SAR (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United States and India increased by +22 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported festive or carnival articles into Puerto Rico, comprising 50% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 5.9% share of global imports. It was followed by Canada, with a 3.8% share.
