In 2021, the Puerto Rican fork-lift truck market decreased by -21.9% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw resilient growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

China was the major exporter of fork-lift trucks in the world, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was approx. 35% of total exports in 2021. Germany (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Italy (8.1%), Sweden (6.8%) and Ireland (5.8%). Belgium (X units), the Netherlands (X units), France (X units), Vietnam (X units), Malaysia (X units), the UK (X units), the United States (X units) and Japan (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+54.6%), Vietnam (+41.2%), Belgium (+16.8%), Italy (+16.4%), Ireland (+9.2%), Germany (+8.3%), Sweden (+7.9%), France (+4.8%) and the United States (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +54.6% from 2012-2021. The UK and the Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Italy, Vietnam, Belgium, Malaysia and Germany increased by +4.5, +2.8, +2.6, +2.5 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest fork-lift truck supplying countries from Puerto Rico were China ($X), Germany ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 47% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, France, Sweden, the UK, Japan, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Vietnam and Malaysia, which together accounted for a further 38%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +54.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, Germany (X units), followed by France (X units), the Netherlands (X units), the United States (X units) and Italy (X units) were the major importers of fork-lift trucks, together making up 37% of total imports. Belgium (X units), Nigeria (X units), Spain (X units), Poland (X units), Canada (X units), the UK (X units), South Africa (X units) and India (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fork-lift trucks into Puerto Rico, comprising 14% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 6% share of global imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United States totaled +8.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+4.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+11.7% per year).
