These countries were followed by Hungary, China, the UK, Mexico, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Belgium, Russia and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 35%.

Germany (+4.2 p.p.), Belgium (+1.8 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Canada, Russia, the UK and France saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -1.8%, -4.1% and -6.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 23% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the United States, with a CAGR of +3.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
