Industrial Sewing Machine Market Size in Puerto Rico

After two years of growth, the Puerto Rican industrial sewing machine market decreased by -5.8% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a drastic downturn. Puerto Rico consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21%. Puerto Rico production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Singapore (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by India (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units). All these countries together took approx. 17% share of total exports. The following exporters - Vietnam (X units), Germany (X units), Japan (X units), South Africa (X units), South Korea (X units) and Hong Kong SAR (X units) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to industrial sewing machine exports from China stood at +4.2%. At the same time, India (+13.5%), Singapore (+4.9%), Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.7%) and Vietnam (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +13.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-1.6%), Hong Kong SAR (-4.2%), South Korea (-5.3%), South Africa (-10.5%) and Japan (-11.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China and India increased by +6.2 and +3.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest industrial sewing machine supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 49% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 9% share of global exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 6.6% share.

In China, industrial sewing machine exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (-0.7% per year) and Japan (-5.4% per year).

In 2021, India (X units), distantly followed by Nigeria (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Vietnam (X units) were the key importers of industrial sewing machines, together creating 34% of total imports. The United States (X units), Brazil (X units), Singapore (X units), Bangladesh (X units), Cambodia (X units), Bolivia (X units), Turkey (X units), Chile (X units) and Sri Lanka (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to industrial sewing machine imports into India stood at +20.4%. At the same time, Chile (+31.6%), Sri Lanka (+21.8%), Bolivia (+19.9%), Nigeria (+9.3%), Turkey (+6.0%), Vietnam (+4.9%), Bangladesh (+4.7%), Indonesia (+4.1%) and Cambodia (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +31.6% from 2012-2021. The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-2.3%) and Brazil (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+15 p.p.), Nigeria (+5.3 p.p.), Indonesia (+3.4 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.9 p.p.), Bolivia (+1.8 p.p.), Chile (+1.7 p.p.), Bangladesh (+1.7 p.p.), Sri Lanka (+1.6 p.p.) and the United States (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest industrial sewing machine importing markets into Puerto Rico were Vietnam ($X), India ($X) and Bangladesh ($X), together accounting for 24% of total imports. Singapore, Turkey, the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Cambodia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Chile and Bolivia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of +11.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
