From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +24.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Morocco ($X) remains the largest preserved sardines supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 33% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 14% share of global exports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 11% share.
In Morocco, preserved sardines exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+16.3% per year) and Thailand (-6.3% per year).

The export price in Puerto Rico stood at less than $X per ton in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern.

Spain (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Gabon (with a CAGR of +10.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest preserved sardines importing markets into Puerto Rico were the United States ($X), France ($X) and South Africa ($X), together comprising 25% of total imports. The Dominican Republic, Ghana, Germany, the UK, Spain, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Gabon, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +9.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
