In 2021, the UK (X litres), distantly followed by France (X litres), Italy (X litres), Mexico (X litres), the Netherlands (X litres) and Germany (X litres) represented the main exporters of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages, together creating 51% of total exports. Spain (X litres), the United States (X litres), Ireland (X litres), Belgium (X litres), Russia (X litres), South Korea (X litres) and Sweden (X litres) took a little share of total exports.
The UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages. At the same time, Belgium (+30.9%), Mexico (+7.7%), Italy (+7.4%), Ireland (+5.7%), Spain (+5.0%), the Netherlands (+3.6%), South Korea (+3.3%), Russia (+1.4%) and France (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +30.9% from 2012-2021. Germany and Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United States (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (+2.6 p.p.), Mexico (+2.5 p.p.) and Belgium (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the UK and the United States saw its share reduced by -2.4% and -4.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the UK ($X), France ($X) and Mexico ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 47% of total exports. The United States, Italy, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Russia and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +18.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X litres), distantly followed by Germany (X litres), Russia (X litres), the UK (X litres) and France (X litres) were the main importers of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages, together mixing up 37% of total imports. The Netherlands (X litres), Spain (X litres), Canada (X litres), Japan (X litres), China (X litres), Singapore (X litres), Italy (X litres) and Belgium (X litres) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to spirits and liqueurs imports into the United States stood at +2.4%. At the same time, Belgium (+18.8%), Canada (+13.2%), China (+8.4%), the UK (+4.8%), the Netherlands (+3.7%), Italy (+3.6%), Russia (+2.4%) and Germany (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2021. France and Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-1.4%) and Singapore (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Canada and Belgium increased by +1.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages into Puerto Rico, comprising 28% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 6.4% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 4.9% share.
In the United States, spirits and liqueurs imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+7.7% per year) and Germany (+0.3% per year).
