After two years of decline, the Puerto Rican textile wadding market increased by 9.2% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption saw a temperate increase. China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof. At the same time, Thailand (+13.4%), Bulgaria (+12.8%), India (+6.3%), Turkey (+5.8%), South Korea (+4.7%), the United States (+4.0%), Japan (+1.5%) and Poland (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2021. France and the Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-3.3%) and Italy (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand and Bulgaria increased by +3.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest textile wadding supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 15% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.7% share of global exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 5.5% share.

In China, textile wadding exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (-1.6% per year) and Japan (+0.8% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Puerto Rico amounted to less than $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The following importers - Canada (X tons), Mexico (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Spain (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - each amounted to a 12% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +22.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest textile wadding importing markets into Puerto Rico were the United States ($X), China ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 20% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, the United States, with a CAGR of +6.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
