For the eighth consecutive year, Qatar recorded growth in overseas purchases of beef (cattle meat), which increased by 20% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, beef imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main suppliers of beef imports to Qatar, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Australia, South Africa, the United States, Jordan, Tanzania, Kuwait and New Zealand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +65,839.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), Australia ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the largest beef suppliers to Qatar, together accounting for 49% of total imports. Pakistan, the United States, South Africa, Jordan, New Zealand, Tanzania and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
Tanzania, with a CAGR of +60,374.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average beef import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 7.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
