In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), China (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports to Qatar, with a combined 30% share of total imports. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Iran, the Czech Republic, Jordan, Vietnam, Belgium and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +74.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X), China ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery suppliers to Qatar, with a combined 27% share of total imports. Turkey, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, India, Belgium, Thailand, Jordan, Lebanon, Iran and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
Among the main suppliers, Iran, with a CAGR of +55.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery amounted to $X per ton, falling by -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery import price decreased by -4.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 18%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
