In 2022, the Qatari olive oil market decreased by -15.3% to $X, falling for the fourth consecutive year after five years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a modest increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of olive oil and its fractions decreased by -23.8% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after five years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 163%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, olive oil imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 77%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of olive oil imports to Qatar, together comprising 61% of total imports. Italy, Tunisia, Turkey, Jordan, Greece and Palestine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +26.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest olive oil suppliers to Qatar were Syrian Arab Republic ($X), Lebanon ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, Greece, Palestine and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
Among the main suppliers, Greece, with a CAGR of +29.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average olive oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 15% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, olive oil import price increased by +118.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 38%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while the price for Jordan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
