The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 83%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rice imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 130%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest rice supplier to Qatar, with a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, rice imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), more than tenfold. Pakistan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+31.7% per year) and Pakistan (-23.9% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rice to Qatar, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 6% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from India stood at +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+32.5% per year) and Pakistan (-21.3% per year).

In 2021, the average rice import price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decline. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Pakistan ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
