Over the period under review, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -42.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 61%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Oman (X tons), India (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of sweet biscuit imports to Qatar, together accounting for 44% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia and Kuwait, which together accounted for a further 42%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Pakistan (with a CAGR of +190.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sweet biscuit suppliers to Qatar were the UK ($X), Oman ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 42% of total imports. Pakistan, India, Italy, Germany, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Kuwait and Bangladesh lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +213.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sweet biscuit import price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 51%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
