The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, book and brochure exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +92.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The United States (X units) was the main destination for book and brochure exports from South Korea, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, book and brochure exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X units), more than tenfold. Mozambique (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled +7.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+4.9% per year) and Mozambique (+52.8% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for books, brochures and similar printed matter exports from South Korea, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +7.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+28.2% per year) and Japan (+3.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average book and brochure export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 49%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Republic of Korea
In 2022, book and brochure imports into South Korea reduced to X units, dropping by -13.8% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, book and brochure imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X units), the United States (X units) and the UK (X units) were the main suppliers of book and brochure imports to South Korea, with a combined 75% share of total imports. Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, China ($X), the United States ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest book and brochure suppliers to South Korea, with a combined 78% share of total imports. Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
Among the main suppliers, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +24.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average book and brochure import price amounted to $X per unit, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
