The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 126%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, date imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of date to South Korea, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, date imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Tunisia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Iran (X tons), with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +27.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tunisia (+44.4% per year) and Iran (+43.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest date suppliers to South Korea were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Iran ($X), together comprising 82% of total imports. The United States and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

Among the main suppliers, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +62.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average date import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
