Frozen Pork Cut Market Size in Republic of Korea

In 2022, the South Korean frozen pork cut market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In value terms, frozen pork cut exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,802% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for frozen pork cut exports from South Korea, accounting for a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (X kg), with a 2.4% share of total exports.

From 2018 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hong Kong SAR totaled +1,158.2%.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for frozen hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat exports from South Korea, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 5.5% share of total exports.

From 2018 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Hong Kong SAR amounted to +637.9%.

In 2022, the average frozen pork cut export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR amounted to $X per ton.

From 2018 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Macao SAR (-4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of frozen hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat, when their volume increased by 209% to X tons. In general, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 265%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen pork cut imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 416%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of frozen pork cut imports to South Korea.
