In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a precipitous descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 67%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Japan (X tons) was the main destination for manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from South Korea, accounting for a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Japan totaled -14.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+330.9% per year) and China (+24.8% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X) remains the key foreign market for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from South Korea, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Japan amounted to -25.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+227.9% per year) and China (+20.6% per year).

In 2021, the average export price for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates amounted to $X per ton, growing by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a abrupt descent. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Republic of Korea
In 2021, the amount of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates imported into South Korea soared to X tons, picking up by 27% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +78.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates to South Korea, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 14% share.

In 2021, the average import price for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates amounted to $X per ton, growing by 3.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
