Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refined maize oil exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for refined maize oil exports from South Korea, with a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, refined maize oil exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Qatar (X tons), threefold. Singapore (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malaysia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Qatar (-12.4% per year) and Singapore (-14.5% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for refined maize (corn) oil exports from South Korea, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Malaysia totaled +2.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-12.8% per year) and Indonesia (+21.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average refined maize oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of refined maize (corn) oil decreased by -10.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 267%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, refined maize oil imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 210% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Spain (X tons) was the main supplier of refined maize oil to South Korea, accounting for a 98% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 0.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +56.0%.
