Exports from Republic of Korea

In 2020, overseas shipments of sheet piling decreased by -X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2010 to 2020, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sheet piling exports fell sharply to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2010 to 2020, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hong Kong SAR (X tons), China (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of sheet piling exports from South Korea, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore, Indonesia and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Malaysia (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X) were the largest markets for sheet piling exported from South Korea worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. The Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore, Indonesia and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average sheet piling export price stood at $X per ton in 2020, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Japan ($X per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (-X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Republic of Korea

In 2020, imports of sheet piling into South Korea dropped significantly to X tons, with a decrease of -X% on 2019. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sheet piling imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a sharp decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest sheet piling supplier to South Korea, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, sheet piling imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), twofold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-X% per year) and China (-X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sheet piling to South Korea, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($X), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-X% per year) and Japan (-X% per year).

The average sheet piling import price stood at $X per ton in 2020, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2009 to 2020, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
