The South Korean skis market contracted dramatically to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -35.7% against the previous year. The average skis export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -31.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 58%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of skis for winter sports decreased by -44.7% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, skis imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Austria (X tons), Germany (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of skis imports to South Korea, together accounting for 24% of total imports. These countries were followed by Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Taiwan (Chinese), France, Japan, Slovenia and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 27%.

The average skis import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
