In 2021, the South Korean soups market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Soups consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, soups exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 205% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for soups exports from South Korea, with a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, soups exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X tons), threefold. In 2021, the average soups export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, imports of soups and broths into South Korea expanded to X tons, surging by 2.1% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 146%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soups imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 131%. Malaysia (X tons), China (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of soups imports to South Korea, together accounting for 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Japan, Spain, Vietnam and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 25%.
