The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Production of peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers, when their volume decreased by -13.3% to X units. In general, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 79%. The exports peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Hungary (X units), Bulgaria (X units) and Algeria (X units) were the main destinations of exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Romania, together comprising 54% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +317.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hungary ($X), Algeria ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) were the largest markets for aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container exported from Romania worldwide, together accounting for 51% of total exports.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +245.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average export price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 8.3%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Algeria (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Romania

In 2022, overseas purchases of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers decreased by -7.3% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 73%. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 72%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Serbia (X units), Italy (X units) and Slovakia (X units) were the main suppliers of imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Romania, with a combined 83% share of total imports. Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +33.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Serbia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Romania, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovakia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Serbia stood at +8.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+24.3% per year) and Slovakia (+16.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while the price for Austria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
