In value terms, apricot exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 155%. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 102%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apricot imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 63%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Greece (X tons) constituted the largest apricot supplier to Romania, accounting for a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, apricot imports from Greece exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Moldova (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Greece stood at +10.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+15.7% per year) and Moldova (+14.2% per year).

In value terms, Greece ($X) constituted the largest supplier of apricots to Romania, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Serbia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Greece totaled +17.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+23.7% per year) and Serbia (+37.6% per year).

The average apricot import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -29.5% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 46%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
