The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Bulgaria (X square meters), Moldova (X square meters) and Hungary (X square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Romania, together accounting for 87% of total exports.

In 2022, ceramic tile imports into Romania contracted to X square meters, which is down by -12.9% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -18.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 39%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
Bulgaria (X square meters), Spain (X square meters) and Italy (X square meters) were the main suppliers of ceramic tile imports to Romania, with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Poland, Turkey and Egypt, which together accounted for a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +58.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) appeared to be the largest ceramic tile suppliers to Romania, together comprising 59% of total imports. India, Poland, Turkey and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
