Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a precipitous descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 71,067%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres declined markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a precipitous decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 17,410%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Bulgaria (X kg) was the main destination for exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from Romania, with a 92% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Bulgaria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bulgaria stood at +251.7%.
In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre exported from Romania worldwide.

Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 279%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+32.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Romania
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, when their volume decreased by -7.1% to X tons. In general, imports showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 915% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 835% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Sri Lanka (X tons), India (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Romania, with a combined 77% share of total imports. Italy, Bulgaria, Poland and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +74.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Sri Lanka ($X), India ($X) and Poland ($X) were the largest coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre suppliers to Romania, with a combined 64% share of total imports. Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.
Among the main suppliers, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +82.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 147%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
