In 2022, the Romanian coconut oil market increased by 22% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Coconut oil consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 1,904% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, coconut oil exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 887%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Moldova (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main destinations of coconut oil exports from Romania, together comprising 99% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +49.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, coconut oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
