After four years of growth, overseas purchases of coniferous wood in the rough decreased by -4.4% to X cubic meters in 2016. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, coniferous wood in the rough imports expanded modestly to $X in 2016. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2016 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2016, Ukraine (X cubic meters) constituted the largest coniferous wood in the rough supplier to Romania, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, coniferous wood in the rough imports from Ukraine exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X cubic meters), fourfold.
