The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, curtains exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +21.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 31%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

The Netherlands (X square meters) was the main destination for curtains exports from Romania, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, curtains exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X square meters), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X square meters), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands totaled +7.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-3.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+56.6% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for curtains and interior blinds exports from Romania, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 5.4% share.

Overall, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 45%. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, curtains imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

China (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters) and Poland (X square meters) were the main suppliers of curtains imports to Romania, together accounting for 48% of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
