The UK (X tons) was the main destination for dry bean exports from Romania, accounting for a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, dry bean exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Moldova (X tons), with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the UK totaled +40.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+39.2% per year) and Moldova (+71.3% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) remains the key foreign market for beans (dry) exports from Romania, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Moldova ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the UK totaled +44.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+47.1% per year) and Hungary (-16.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average dry bean export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -7.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 92% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+23.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of beans (dry) imported into Romania surged to X tons, increasing by 18% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dry bean imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 42%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, Egypt (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of dry bean to Romania, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, dry bean imports from Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bulgaria (X tons), sevenfold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Egypt totaled +29.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bulgaria (-4.0% per year) and Turkey (+86.3% per year).

In 2022, the average dry bean import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
