In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of dry vegetables, when their volume decreased by -35.2% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,374% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dry vegetable exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 197%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of dry vegetable exports from Romania, with a combined 71% share of total exports. Italy, Belgium, Greece, Moldova, the UK, Poland, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +53.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for dry vegetable exported from Romania were Hungary ($X), Italy ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 53% share of total exports. In 2022, the average dry vegetable export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 151% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of dry vegetables increased by 46% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, dry vegetable imports rose to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of dry vegetable imports to Romania, together accounting for 59% of total imports. Germany, Greece, China, Spain, India, Bulgaria, Austria, France and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +38.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average dry vegetable import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -29% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
