Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32,500%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, seafood meals and pellets exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 14,254% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Moldova (X tons) was the main destination for seafood meals and pellets exports from Romania, with a 85% share of total exports. Moreover, seafood meals and pellets exports to Moldova exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X kg), sixfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Moldova totaled -18.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-47.4% per year) and Germany (-59.6% per year).

In general, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +48.1% against 2019 indices.
