Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of frozen poultry livers and offal increased by 1.9% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen poultry liver exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bulgaria (X tons) was the main destination for frozen poultry liver exports from Romania, with a 30% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen poultry liver exports to Bulgaria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Bulgaria amounted to -10.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+0.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+14.7% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for frozen poultry liver exported from Romania worldwide, with a combined 51% share of total exports. Hungary, the UK, Greece, Italy, Congo, Estonia, Serbia, Ghana, North Macedonia and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Ghana, with a CAGR of +95.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average frozen poultry liver export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 12%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Romania

In 2022, frozen poultry liver imports into Romania reduced modestly to X tons, waning by -4% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen poultry liver imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of frozen poultry liver imports to Romania, together comprising 64% of total imports. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen poultry liver import price increased by +53.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 31%.
