Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +7.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments fell modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +127.8% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

Belgium (X units), Italy (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments from Romania, together comprising 71% of total exports. France, Bulgaria, Hungary, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +172.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Based on 2021 figures, export price for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments increased by +42.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, when their volume decreased by -52.4% to X units. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 214% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 261% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X units), Spain (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments to Romania, with a combined 64% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Poland, France, Austria, Moldova, Italy, Hungary and the UK, which together accounted for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Moldova (with a CAGR of +103.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments to Romania, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey totaled +82.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+14.7% per year) and Spain (+16.8% per year).

The average import price for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, import price for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments increased by +23.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 24%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the price for the UK ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
