Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X units) was the main destination for gas supply meter exports from Romania, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, gas supply meter exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X units), more than tenfold. India (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with less than 0.1% share.

After four years of growth, purchases abroad of gas supply or production meters decreased by -27.2% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 266% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, gas supply meter imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 88%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Slovakia (X units) constituted the largest gas supply meter supplier to Romania, accounting for a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, gas supply meter imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X units), with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovakia amounted to +31.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+7.2% per year) and Italy (+59.0% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of gas supply or production meters to Romania, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Slovakia amounted to +21.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-1.0% per year) and Italy (+37.7% per year).

In 2021, the average gas supply meter import price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a deep slump. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the price for Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (-7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
