From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Moldova (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of gravel and crushed stone exports from Romania, together accounting for 99% of total exports.

In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +48.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 59%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, gravel and crushed stone imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Bulgaria (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of gravel and crushed stone to Romania, with a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, gravel and crushed stone imports from Bulgaria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Serbia (X tons), fourfold. Greece (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bulgaria totaled +4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Serbia (+15.6% per year) and Greece (+22.6% per year).
In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of gravel and crushed stone to Romania, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Greece ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Serbia, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Bulgaria stood at +6.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+29.4% per year) and Serbia (+14.4% per year).

The average gravel and crushed stone import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 97% against the previous year.
