Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 92%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+13.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers decreased by -2.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 153%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hairpin imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Italy (X tons), China (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of hairpin imports to Romania, together comprising 68% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Italy (with a CAGR of +16.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 51% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
