The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 665%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of inulin increased by 3.7% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 83%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, inulin imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest inulin supplier to Romania, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, inulin imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belgium stood at +31.4%.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) constituted the largest supplier of inulin to Romania, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.
