Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lignite imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 529%. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest lignite supplier to Romania, with a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, lignite imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Serbia (X tons), twofold.
