In value terms, lithium-ion accumulator exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 653%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units) was the main destination for lithium-ion accumulator exports from Romania, with a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, lithium-ion accumulator exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X units), ninefold. Hungary (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled +55.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+53.8% per year) and Hungary (+9.7% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for lithium-ion accumulators exports from Romania, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +92.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+105.2% per year) and Hungary (+24.3% per year).

The average lithium-ion accumulator export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+33.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Romania

In 2021, purchases abroad of lithium-ion accumulators increased by 14% to X units, rising for the seventh year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 100% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, lithium-ion accumulator imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 92% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Germany (X units) and Vietnam (X units) were the main suppliers of lithium-ion accumulator imports to Romania, with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, Japan, the Netherlands and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +227.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest lithium-ion accumulator suppliers to Romania were Vietnam ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 75% of total imports. Singapore, the Netherlands, Japan and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Among the main suppliers, Singapore, with a CAGR of +222.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average lithium-ion accumulator import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -3.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
