Poland (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main destinations of packaging materials exports from Romania, together comprising 50% of total exports. Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Moldova, Slovakia, France, Algeria and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Packaging materials imports into Romania rose significantly to X tons in 2022, growing by 11% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +118.1% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Hungary (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of packaging materials imports to Romania, together accounting for 54% of total imports. Poland, Italy, Sweden, Serbia, Russia, Finland, Turkey, China and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
