Particle Board Market Size in Romania

In 2022, the Romanian particle board market decreased by -26.2% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, the total consumption indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. In 2022, shipments abroad of particle board increased by 3% to X cubic meters, rising for the second consecutive year after seven years of decline. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, particle board exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +88.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 50%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

China (X cubic meters), Serbia (X cubic meters) and Italy (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of particle board exports from Romania, together comprising 33% of total exports. Hungary, Poland, the United States, Bulgaria, Israel, Greece, Slovakia, Moldova, Taiwan (Chinese) and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +182.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for particle board exports from Romania, comprising 17% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Serbia ($X), with an 8.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China amounted to +19.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (+13.4% per year) and Italy (+2.8% per year).

The average particle board export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, particle board export price increased by +80.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 48%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Israel ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Romania

In 2022, particle board imports into Romania skyrocketed to X cubic meters, growing by 21% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 75%. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, particle board imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Hungary (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters) and Bulgaria (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of particle board imports to Romania, with a combined 64% share of total imports. Ukraine, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +19.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, import price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, particle board import price increased by +55.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Slovakia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
