The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 242%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Bulgaria (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of polyacetals exports from Romania, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Poland, Hungary, France, Slovenia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

Over the period under review, export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, polyacetals export price increased by +79.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 58%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) and Bulgaria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+21.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of polyacetals in primary forms was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, polyacetals imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polyacetals to Romania, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, polyacetals imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), threefold. South Korea (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +16.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+19.7% per year) and South Korea (+14.3% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polyacetals in primary forms to Romania, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +14.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+18.2% per year) and Italy (+17.1% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
