Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons) was the main destination for polyethylene glycol and polyether exports from Romania, accounting for a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, polyethylene glycol and polyether exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland totaled +20.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+16.7% per year) and Turkey (-4.6% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms exports from Romania, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland amounted to +25.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+21.9% per year) and Italy (+8.6% per year).

In 2021, purchases abroad of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms increased by 17% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
