Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, polyurethanes exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of polyurethanes exports from Romania, with a combined 53% share of total exports. The UK, the Czech Republic, Spain, Austria, Australia, Ireland, Serbia, Croatia, Sweden and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +518.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Australia ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -9.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main suppliers of polyurethanes imports to Romania, with a combined 73% share of total imports. Bulgaria, Poland, France and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +39.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
