After two years of decline, the Romanian screwdriver market increased by 39% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption enjoyed a remarkable increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, screwdriver production fell rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 159%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, approx. X tons of screwdrivers were exported from Romania; increasing by 86% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, screwdriver exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) were the main destinations of screwdriver exports from Romania, together comprising 71% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +133.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Moldova ($X) and Hungary ($X) were the largest markets for screwdriver exported from Romania worldwide, with a combined 50% share of total exports. These countries were followed by China, Bulgaria, Poland and Spain, which together accounted for a further 33%.

China, with a CAGR of +135.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 127%. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of screwdrivers increased by 27% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 35%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, screwdriver imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of screwdriver imports to Romania, together accounting for 87% of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, France and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 7.7%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest screwdriver suppliers to Romania were China ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Austria and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 9.1%.

Among the main suppliers, Belgium, with a CAGR of +30.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average screwdriver import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
